Today we would visit the schools in Bu’Eine. We, Naïki, Manar and Lien, left the house early, because school starts at 8 o’clock.
We went to the high school first. The sister of Manar, Fatima, goes to school here. She is in the 11th grade. We went to the principal of the school first, he is the uncle of Manar. Then we got a guided tour through the school. It was a very large school. Manar showed us all the classrooms in the school, the chemistry class, the biology class, the ICT class, etc. We ate falafel, at 10.30 in the morning, our stomach didn’t like that so much !
In the stairways we saw the aunt of Manar. She asked us to attend a course of history. It was about the Arabic culture. She was telling a story to the students, we didn’t understand a lot of it, fortunately Manar translated a lot of things for us. I suppose that the student got tired, they asked Sahira, the teacher if we could give a presentation of Belgium for them. We hadn’t prepared anything, but inventive as we are, it all went well. The students asked a lot of questions. The lesson could go on after that. Sahira dictated the lesson for the student, they wrote everything down in a notebook. The course came to an end. Sahira took us to the principal again, so we could ask him a few more questions. He invited us to drink coffee with him and to eat fruit.
After that we went to the general school. There are two general schools in Bu’Eine, but we went to the one that was close to the house. The brothers of Manar went to school there. We could go to a course of English, the niece of Manar was in this class, it where children of 11 years old. They were all very enthusiastic to see us. We had to take pictures of them all the time. We will put some pictures underneath. Then it was time for the course of English. The children had to read a text about ‘Computer bugs’ and then they solved a few questions about it. The children liked to read the English text and they really tried to solve the exercises. After this course we went to a sport lesson of Hubesj, the brother of Manar. The boys were all playing football, the girls were making artwork.
At 14h the school was over, we went home. Jara, the niece of Manar asked Lien to help her with her homework of English. She had to read ‘The Jungle Book’ and write a book report about it. She didn’t read the book, so we read it together. I translated the words she didn’t understand and we solved the questions together. Naïki was helping Hubesj with his English homework. He wrote a few words wrong, so he had to write them again. Naïki helped him to write the words correctly.
After this day with a lot of ‘school-things’ we decided to do something else. We went to the ‘Al Ba’Tov’ valley to go for a long walk with Fatima and her niece Haneen. We had an interesting talk about the differences between our two countries.
It was a very nice day!
Lien and Naïki
