The Arab College For Education and my host family

01/05/2012

I'm sorry that I didn't post a blog yesterday! In my host family there is no connection with the internet. Tonight I'm with an uncle of Yasmine so I can tell you something about my adventures.

Monday I went for the first time to the Arab College For Education. Yasmine, a student, showed us the campus. After the tour we had a meeting with Dr.Taha to discuss our schedule for the internship in Haifa. At the end it wasn't clear what he expects us to do, but we got a solid program for this week. The school is very modern: multiple computer classes, the classes are equipped for the specific subjects, like physics and in almost every class there is a beamer/projector. The number of students in one course is limited (small groups) and the relationship students - teachers is very close.

The difference between the students is clearly visible: some students weare a tight T-shirt and others weare a kerchief but they all wear long pants. I also saw some male students. The young people in this College are very modern and you see Iphones everywhere.

Dr. Taha told me that I will stay with Yasmines family until sunday. She lives in a little village close to Nazareth and goes to school by bus. When I arrived at monday, I was pleasant suprised: my host family is huge! The complex where they live includes 5 houses and a small farm. Three generation are living together: grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, uncles and aunts. Every houshold has an own place but after dinner you can all find them in the living room of Yasmines parents. The talk, laugh and drink some coffee are tea. This family speaks Arabic but they talk to me and with hand gestures, it's possible to understand each other. Everyone wants to meet me and the're very excited about 'the Belgian girl'. I realy love the way they live: the relatives spend all their time together, they help and serve each other and they want to pamper their guest.

Today, tuesday, Yasmine and me went to Nazareth to vistite the Basilica of the Annunciation. The mosaics on the walls are so beautiful. I had goosebumps just by looking at the Basilica.Even Yasmine was open-eyed by the beauty that this building offers.

After dinner with my host family, I spent some time with the aunts and the grandmother (they were making dinner for tomorrow), I took care of the smallest family member and went with Yasmine and her father to a wholesale for their shop. On thursday I will go to the College again...I'll keep you posted!
